Parking Strategy Study

The Parking Strategy Study is centered on the key goal of enhancing and revitalizing Downtown Penetanguishene and the Town Dock. The document has been submitted and available here. Parking Strategy Study.

Council at their meeting on March 12, 2025 approved the following Motion:

THAT staff be directed to operationalize any recommendations regarding line painting and signage to improve parking downtown as necessary within existing budgets as per the Parking Strategy Study by LEA Consulting Ltd. dated October 2024.

AND THAT staff be directed to explore the following proposed changes during the Traffic and Parking By-law amendment process:

  1. Possible changes to limit vehicle lengths on all or part of Main Street
  2. Possible changes to the permitted parking time limits downtown including short-term parking spaces for quick turnover
  3. Possible changes to add accessible parking spaces downtown and the Town Dock.

AND FURTHER THAT staff be directed to consider the recommendations of the Parking Strategy Study in future road reconstruction projects.

AND FINALLY THAT staff be directed to bring a report back on establishing a parking permit system for Penetanguishene including necessary staff resources and budget support.
