Winter 2026 Dates (8 weeks):
*Note - No lessons Family Day Weekend (February 14 or February 15)

Facility Information:Swimming Pool Location: Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, 500 Church Street, Atrium Building. Site map and parking map can be found HERE. Parking: Waypoint has permitted parking. Parking passes must be displayed, or you risk getting a ticket. All Town of Penetanguishene swimming participants will receive a complimentary parking permit that is to be picked up at:- Town Hall, 10 Robert Street West, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
- Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM *By request - arrangements can be made for pass pick up at the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre outside of regular hours
The permit is valid for Parking Lot C and must be displayed on rear-view mirror at all times to avoid parking tickets. Please avoid parking in Visitor parking spaces. The Town will not be responsible for any parking tickets.
Car seats: If you have a car seat with you, you are welcome to leave it in the viewing area for your lesson. Change rooms: Changing facilities at Waypoint are small and can be crowed at times. It may be easier to change babies in the viewing area or the washroom off the viewing area. Families are also encouraged to use this washroom if you are not sure which change room is best (ex. father with daughter, Mother with son). Lockers: There are lockers available for use in the changerooms. Please bring your own lock if you wish to use a locker. Accessible Change rooms: There is an accessible change room available in the observation room overlooking the pool at Waypoint. Families and groups with older children are encouraged to use this space to change when the adult & children are of different genders. Restricted Photography: Photography is restricted to the pool area only AND individual photos of your swimmer(s) ONLY. No photos should be taken in general areas of the Centre OR of other swimmers without consent.
Notes from Waypoint:- Like all public hospitals, protecting our patients' privacy is a legislated requirement. Please be respectful of our patients and their confidentiality and privacy.
- Waypoint is a non-smoking campus, and smoking is not allowed anywhere on the grounds.
- The community is welcome in the front entrance, front lobby and hallway leading to the pool corridor.
- Please ensure that you and your children do not enter areas of the hospital closed to the public is appreciated.
- Please monitor your children and being mindful of the hospital environment for patients with respect to noise levels, running and not leaving bags, toys, purses etc. unmonitored or in traffic areas.
Program Information:Canceled dates/classes: If there is a cancelation (ex. extreme weather, pool maintenance concern), participants will be contacted by email ASAP. Please add no-reply@recdesk.net to your safe senders list to ensure that you receive cancelation emails.Open swims (all ages): There will be open swims only when there are swim lessons running. Payment is cash only. The schedule for open swim (all ages) is Saturday 3:00 - 4:00 PM and Sunday 2:30 - 3:30 PM. CASH ONLY Prices are: $2 per child, $3 per adult, and $9 family pass.Open swims (15+): There will be an adult only (15+ years) open swim on Saturdays from 12:45 - 1:45 pm. Payment is cash or 55+ Centre punch passes only. Payment in cash is $3 per adult. For information on the 55+ Centre Punch Pass, please email mmarchand@penetanguishene.caLane swim: If you would like to swim laps, please let staff know you would like the lane marker placed, if it is not already.Swimming Levels and Progress Reports: Our instructors follow the guidelines of the Lifesaving Society. Note that levels are not meant to be passed by participants in one session, some may take 2 – 3 times of repeating the same level in order to be qualified to be moved up to the next level. Upcoming Events
Festival of Lights - Friday, December 5
Town Dock Tree Lighting - 2 Main Street, Town Dock 5:00 - 5:30 PM* Tree lit at 5:30 PM Join the Town of Penetanguishene for a Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Penetanguishene Town Dock. The Tree Lighting activities will begin at 5:00 PM with live caroling, free apple cider from World Famous Dock Lunch, and a welcoming speech by the Mayor. Following the tree lighting, community members are invited visit the arena for additional activities.
Activities at the Arena - Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre (Starting at 5:30 PM) 61 Maria Street, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
The Arena will have activities for all ages, including visits with Santa, photo booths, free hot chocolate and cookies, crafts and goodies, live music, strolling carnival performers, face painting & public skating. FREE Admission.
Fun with Santa - Saturday, December 13, 9:30 AM- 12:00 PM (30-minute time slots)
Come visit the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives on Saturday, December 14th for our Fun with Santa Event. Event includes a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, scavenger hunt, door prizes, crafts and decorate your own cookies. Children must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
Cost: $6.00 per child (guardians are free)

Join the Town of Penetanguishene February 14 - 15th for the 78th Annual Winterama!
Penetanguishene Winterama, the longest running winter carnival in Ontario. A celebration of Canadian seasonality, Winterama is an opportunity to renew an interest in outdoor activity; enhance community spirit and pride through people, partnership and products; share the heritage and culture of the community and welcome families, friends and visitors alike in a seasonal celebration.
Town of Penetanguishene organized events occur from Saturday, February 14th until Sunday, February 15th. Specific details on local businesses and partners who host events and discounts will be posted in the event schedule.
How to get involved with the 78th Winterama NOW:

The Town is welcoming expressions of interest for businesses and community organizations to host interactive activities and games. Visit winterama.ca for more details on how to express interest.
