The Town of Penetanguishene considered the All-Terrain Vehicle/Off-Road Vehicle Pilot Program at their regular Committee of the Whole meeting on August 13, 2025. Following consultation with the public, the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs, Council endorsed the recommendation to permit ATVs/ORVs on municipal roads permanently. Council intends to pass a new Bylaw that would enable the continued use and enjoyment of municipal roadways following the September 30, 2025, Pilot Program expiry.

    TAKE NOTICE THAT the Town of Penetanguishene is considering a Pilot Program that would permit All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) or Off-Road Vehicles (ORV) on municipal roads. Council invites the public to attend an Open House to learn more about the potential pilot program and share their comments prior to a final decision by Council in the Summer of 2024.

    Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    AND

    Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

    Location Council Chambers, Townhall 10 Robert Street West

    DESCRIPTION OF PILOT PROGRAM

    Currently, in the Town of Penetanguishene, ATVs/ORVs are not permitted on any local roads, or trails. Council is considering a 1-year Pilot Program whereby ATVs/ORVs would be permitted on ALL municipal roads.

    Further the operation of the ATV/ORV would be required to comply with the Highway Traffic Act and the Off-Road Vehicles Act with respect to safe operation of the vehicle, safety equipment, speed, etc.
